Osteoporosis Management Clinic Sydney

Women’s Osteoporosis Management in Sydney’s Inner West

Osteoporosis is a common bone density condition that affects over one million Australians. Osteoporosis causes bones to become so brittle that even normal daily movements, like carrying groceries, can cause them to fracture. Individuals living with osteoporosis often stop participating in activities and interests for fear of causing fractures. But this doesn’t have to be the case.

Papaya Clinic is a women’s health specialist clinic offering holistic and collaborative care for treating and managing a range of conditions, including osteoporosis. Our holistic health team includes physiotherapists, acupuncturists, naturopaths, and physio-led exercise instructors. Together, we create tailored management plans that focus on slowing down bone loss and empowering you to live a healthy, active life - one that is not dictated by osteoporosis.

What is osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a condition that causes bones to become fragile, making them more susceptible to fractures. According to a 2024 study by the International Osteoporosis Foundation, 1 in 2 women and 1 in 3 men over the age of 50 will suffer from bone-related fractures.

While it affects both genders, women are at a higher risk of osteoporosis. This is due to the significant hormonal and chemical changes during stages like breastfeeding and menopause, which can cause women to lose a significant percentage of bone mass.

Unfortunately, osteoporosis cannot be reversed; however, it can be managed. Similar to muscles and tendons, bones are living tissues that can be strengthened with exercise and proper nutrition, slowing down bone loss.

How Papaya helps women manage osteoporosis

Taking a holistic and personalised hybrid approach to managing osteoporosis is essential for long-term, sustainable solutions. At Papaya, we offer a range of services, including physiotherapy, acupuncture, naturopathy, and physio-led exercises, that can provide the best results when used together. Depending on your lifestyle, severity of osteoporosis, medical history, and goals, your plan may include:

  • Naturopathic & Nutrition Services: our naturopaths will ensure a healthy diet that includes calcium, vitamin D, and protein, to support your bone health.

  • Acupuncture Services: our acupuncturists help treat osteoporosis pain and increase blood flow, which can improve bone strength.

  • Physiotherapy: our musculoskeletal physiotherapists will slowly introduce exercises that help to strengthen bones, assist posture, improve balance, and manage pain.

  • Exercise & Pilates Classes: we offer personalised exercise and pilates classes to support physiotherapy treatment.
