What is polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal condition in women. PCOS occurs when an unusual amount of cysts (which contain eggs) form on the follicles of the ovaries. The condition can cause pain in the abdominal and pelvic areas, typically during menstruation.

PCOS is a complex condition to identify, as very few women have the same symptoms. Symptoms of PCOS may include (but are not limited to) weight gain, fertility issues, irregular periods, acne, anxiety or depression, and excessive facial or body hair. Polycystic ovary syndrome is often diagnosed with an ultrasound.

  • Pelvic health physiotherapy: providing manual therapy, pelvic floor exercises, and stretching techniques to address muscular imbalances.

  • Exercise & Pilates Classes: to help support your physiotherapy treatment, regulate hormones, manage weight, increase fertility, and regular menstrual cycles.

  • Psychology: help navigate complex emotions often associated with PCOS, including stress, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues.
