Burnout Treatment Clinic Sydney
Women's Health Clinic for Burnout & Mental Health
Burnout happens when we experience high levels of stress over an extended period of time. Just like how our physical body needs rest, our mind and emotional self also need reprieve from the pressures of work and family. If the weight of your responsibilities is making you feel tired, confused, or lost, it's likely that you need support for burnout.
Papaya Clinic is a women's health clinic in Sydney that provides personal support for women to manage and recover from burnout. We use an integrative approach to burnout management, combining hormonal, nutritional, movement and clinical psychology treatments. Our practitioners look at the underlying hormonal and physiological causes of burnout to aid recovery more directly than talk therapy approaches typically can.
We walk alongside women through every stage of life from puberty to career building, pregnancy and postpartum, motherhood, and beyond.
With our support and treatment, we can identify the specific triggers causing burnout for you and help you find a way out of your situation. Our clinical psychotherapists will also provide you with stress management techniques to avoid burnout in future.

Signs You May Be Experiencing Burnout
Burnout is more than just a state of mind - it is marked by a combination of mental health issues, hormonal imbalance, and physical symptoms that commonly include:
Persistent lethargy and exhaustion that sleep does not fix
Frequent headaches, muscle tension, jaw clenching, or tight shoulders
Chest tightness or a racing heart under everyday pressure
Poor sleep patterns
Gut dysfunction (bloating, irregular digestion, changes in appetite)
Feeling emotionally detached, numb, or empty
Loss of joy in doing the things you love
Difficulty concentrating, brain fog, or issues with memory recall
Withdrawing from friends, family, or social life
Neglecting your own needs while still continuing to provide for others
Feeling guilty about taking breaks or not being able to meet others' expectations
Burnout is not uncommon among women in Australia - a survey of over 1,400 Australian women by Women's Agenda found that 72% reported experiencing burnout in the past 12 months.
Burnout is the body's signal that we’re using more energy and resources than we currently have. The goal of burnout management is to restore the depleted resources, and help individuals make changes to their lifestyle for a more sustainable balance.
We take a complementary therapies approach to burnout, focused on the hormonal and nervous system imbalances that drive it. Burnout management can include:
Acupuncture
There is evidence that acupuncture can address hormonal imbalances and provide the body with a better coping mechanism by lowering cortisol levels circulating in the blood. Acupuncture is usually applied to restore good gut health, sleep patterns, and a balanced mood - all of which are symptoms linked to burnout.
Nutrition and naturopathy
Nutrition and naturopathy can help to stimulate your HPA axis (the main axis of the stress response of your body) by adding nutrients to the body such as B Vitamins, L-Theanine, magnesium, and Zinc.
If necessary, we can advise you to visit a full nutrition consult or supplement analysis for the purpose of receiving dosage and therapeutic indications.
Herbal medicine
Herbal treatment may be used to support adrenal and hormonal balance as part of your broader treatment plan.
Blood panel screening
In some cases, we may recommend a blood test to identify other areas affected by chronic stress, such as cholesterol, thyroid function, and blood glucose, to get a clearer picture of how burnout is affecting your body.
What Does Burnout Management Involve?
Frequently Asked Questions
-
The WHO's ICD-11 characterises burnout by three features: energy depletion, growing mental distance or cynicism toward your responsibilities, and reduced effectiveness. It shares some symptoms with depression, but is considered a distinct response to unmanaged chronic stress rather than a standalone mental health condition. Some people describe this as a feeling of brain fog that does not go away after rest, or a sense of loss of control over their lives.
It is normal to feel stressed for short periods at a time (hours to days). Extended periods of mental or emotional stress are what lead to burnout.

Recovering from burnout is a journey that is different for everyone. Some women take several weeks to recover from mild cases of burnout, while others who have been experiencing severe burnout for prolonged periods can take months before feeling like themselves again.
Our burnout treatments are designed to walk with you every step of the way toward recovery - however long that takes. This is why we do not have a fixed number of sessions for burnout management. We focus on providing ongoing support that sees you through early periods of relief and prevents burnout from creeping back into your life.
