Acupuncture at Papaya: What to Expect?

At Papaya Clinic our acupuncture treatments exist as part of an integrative healthcare plan that is structured to move you towards long-term and sustained health. We believe that too many people accept common symptoms as “normal,” when they can be addressed by delving deeper and addressing the underlying patterns that created those symptoms in the first place. Acupuncture is a holistic system that allows us to stand back and see the whole picture, allowing for true change to happen by combining the right treatment approach with lifestyle changes, accountability and consistency.

Many people seek acupuncture when symptoms become too disruptive to ignore, but in our clinic, we see true transformation occur when we go beyond putting out spot fires for symptom relief and begin to focus on long term change.

This is why we use our sessions to guide you through a structured care plan that allows each phase of treatment to build on the last. Our model of care is designed to take you through to true symptom resolution and maintenance of long term health.

Phase 1: Diagnosis & Treatment Plan (1-3 sessions)

Your care plan begins with a comprehensive consultation where we identify both the "root" (underlying cause) and the "branch" (your symptoms). Whether you’re dealing with stress, pain, hormonal shifts, or sleep disturbances, we’ll work with you to co-design a treatment plan for you that really works. Our initial sessions together include treatment to start you on the path to feeling better. Even though our end goal is long term sustained change, most people start to feel some symptom relief within the first 2-4 sessions.

What to expect:

  • No guess work,  you’ll know exactly where we are on the plan each step of the way

  • Lifestyle guidance, including nutrition, movement, and daily habits to support your results

  • Regular rebooking to ensure treatment consistency and track your progress.

  • Consultation with other members of our team as needed to ensure we are addressing the four pillars of health

Phase 2: Treatment & Symptom Resolution (6-12 sessions)

Acupuncture works cumulatively, meaning that each session builds on the effects of the last. To get the best results we usually start with weekly sessions for 4-6 weeks. This allows us to establish a treatment trajectory where you are seeing improvements week to week as your body becomes better at maintaining the effects of treatment. Think of it like training a muscle, consistent work is needed over a period of time for you to see the results that you want.

Over this period we use your symptoms to track your progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

  • We support behavioural changes by helping you to integrate small daily shifts that support your health

  • Regular appointments help keep you on track, ensuring symptoms don’t creep back in.

In our work we see the evidence that lifestyle really is the key to long term health. The small things you do daily work hand in hand with acupuncture to accelerate healing and reduce treatment time. This can be really empowering because it means that your care is an active two way process and what you do really matters.

Phase 3: Maintenance & Prevention (ongoing care)

Once your symptoms are well-managed we can reduce treatment frequency to monthly sessions for three months, allowing us to ensure that your symptoms remain stable. This is the point in the process where many people feel their “normal” has been reset and these maintenance acupuncture sessions help keep your system in balance.

Preventative care: After your initial care plan, we encourage patients to book in seasonally (every 3 months) as a proactive way to strengthen immunity, support energy, and prevent old symptoms from creeping back in.
